In Memoriam – Guy W. Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce that Guy W. Smith, a founding partner of the firm, passed away on January 30, 2023, at the age of 95. To those who knew Guy, either professionally or personally, he was truly larger than life or as he would say a “bon vivant”. While his principal areas of practice were oil and gas and real estate, his love of sports, entertainment and people in general gave him the opportunity to practice a much broader spectrum of the law. While the stories of Guy and his antics are legendary, he had a tremendous heart and would not hesitate to help those in need. 

From his roots in West Monroe, (a town of which he was quick to instruct on the correct pronunciation), he traveled the world including attending numerous Olympics and on scouting trips for his beloved LSU Tigers. 

With his colorful collection of jackets, ties, socks, belts and shirts, Guy embodied fashion trends many decades before they became the “norm”. Due to his love of music and movies, fashionable cocktails, and totally unhealthy food, Guy was a true renaissance man who will be sorely missed not only by members of the firm, but by anyone with whom he crossed paths.
