AV Rated Mr. Blum received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Loyola University of the South in 1965. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University Law School in 1968. During his law school years, he was elected to the Order of the Coif and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, was a member of the Louisiana Law Review, and was named outstanding graduate of Martin Inn, Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity for 1968.

Mr. Blum’s primary area of practice is general civil litigation, including oil and gas disputes, products liability suits, breach of contracts actions, expropriation matters (representing both the expropriating authority and the affected landowner), insurance contract litigation, disputes regarding personal rights, including successions, corporate governance matters (including shareholder derivative actions) and foreclosures. Mr. Blum also has extensive experience in transactional work. He has represented clients in the purchase and sale of corporate stock and other property and has represented both lenders and borrowers in major loan transactions involving banks and other lenders, including workouts of substantial problem loans. Prior to entering the private practice of law in 1970, Mr. Blum served in the United States Army and was assigned to the Judge Advocate General’s office, Saigon Support Command, United States Army in Vietnam, where he tried approximately 65 court martials, primarily as counsel for defense. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his services in Vietnam.

Mr. Blum is active in the American Bar Association and has served on several committees in the Section of Litigation. He was also a past president of the New Orleans Association of Defense Counsel.

  • Dakin and Klein, Eminent Domain in Louisiana (1970). Mr. Blum was principal researcher for, and provided initial drafts of, two of the six sections of this thorough study of expropriation law, and prepared the index and table of cases.
