Tom Fischer has been named an honoree for the 2012 Homines Pro Aliis Award by the Jesuits of the New Orleans Province. The Homines Pro Aliis Award recognizes the volunteer efforts of those who are “people for others” and exemplify the characteristics of leadership, selflessness, and caring through their volunteerism.

Since 2007, Tom has been actively mentoring students at The Good Shepherd School, whose mission is to provide an excellent education, tuition free, in a safe and nurturing environment to at-risk children in New Orleans. Tom is the longest serving mentor at Good Shepherd and has graduated three of his students, all of whom he remains in touch with today. By engaging his students with their school work in fun and inventive ways, Tom has helped empower these children by providing them with the tools to break away from the cycle of poverty.  In addition to serving as a mentor, Tom was elected to the Good Shepherd Board of Directors in 2010 and currently acts as Secretary of the Board and a member of the Executive Committee.

SPSR congratulates Tom on an honor well deserved.
