JAMES A. BURTON

Mr. Burton received Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from Tulane University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif, and was a member and Assistant Editor of the Tulane Law Review. He has authored several articles and presented lectures in the areas of taxation, partnership and real estate law.

Mr. Burton has been engaged in the private practice of law in Louisiana since 1972. He has extensive experience in business and tax litigation and administrative proceedings generally, including environmental, energy-related and landlord-tenant matters, and state taxation. He has practiced in federal and state courts throughout Louisiana and before the Louisiana Departments of Environmental Quality, Wildlife & Fisheries, Natural Resources and Revenue & Taxation. He also is experienced in commercial real estate and partnership transactions, and health care law.

Mr. Burton is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association and of its Section on Environmental Law; of the American Bar Association and its Law Practice Management, Business Law and Litigation Sections; and of the New Orleans Bar Association. He also is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Program in Community Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine. Mr. Burton is a former president and board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Louisiana.
