Guy W. Smith's legal career has spanned more than fifty years, and is focused in the areas of real estate, oil and gas, aviation, sports law and financial transactions. As a 1950 graduate of LSU School of Geology (followed by one year in graduate school) and a 1955 graduate of the LSU Law School, Guy is an ardent fan and supporter of all LSU sports, make that all LSU “winning” sports.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Smith was employed as legal counsel by Interstate Pipe Line Company, predecessor to Olin Gas Transmission Corporation. Mr. Smith’s primary practice is in the fields of mineral law, oil and gas exploration, real estate title examinations and financial transactions. He represents major and independent oil companies, gas transmission companies, savings and loan companies and banks. He has closed loans for Hibernia, Whitney, FNBC, Crescent Bank & Trust, Capital One, Iberia Bank and various other banks throughout Louisiana. He has also handled loans which were accepted by Fannie Mae and FHA.
Mr. Smith represents professional athletes and sports organizations, and is a former member of the U.S. Olympic Committee. He has represented adoptive parents and was a contributing redactor of the revision of the Louisiana adoption laws.
