Mr. Smith received a Bachelor
of Science degree in Geology from Louisiana State University
in 1950, and attended graduate school in that field.
He received his Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana
State University in 1955.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Smith was
employed as legal counsel by Interstate Pipe Line Company,
predecessor to Olin Gas Transmission Corporation. Mr.
Smith’s primary practice is in the fields of
mineral law, oil and gas exploration, real estate title
examinations and financial transactions. He represents
major and independent oil companies, gas transmission
companies, savings and loan companies and banks. He
has closed loans for Hibernia, Whitney, FNBC, First
Crescent Bank & Trust, and various other banks
throughout Louisiana . He has also handled loans which
were accepted by Fannie Mae and FHA.
Mr. Smith represents professional athletes and sports
organizations, and is a former member of the U.S. Olympic
Committee. He has represented adoptive parents and
was a contributing redactor of the revision to the
Louisiana adoption laws.
