PROFILE:  

Mr. Burton received Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctor degrees from Tulane University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif, and was a member and Assistant Editor of the Tulane Law Review. He has authored several articles and presented lectures in the areas of civil and appellate practice lease and partnership. He has also been a speaker at seminars for the National Business Institute: “The Essentials of Office and Retail Leases in Louisiana (1998) and “Drafting and Negotiating Louisiana Commercial Real Estate Leases” (2003).

Mr. Burton has been engaged in the private practice of law in Louisiana since 1972. He was a founding partner of SPS&R in 1979 and currently serves as its managing partner. He has extensive experience in business and tax litigation and administrative proceedings including all types of lease negotiation, drafting and litigation, environmental, energy-related and state taxation. He has practiced in federal and state courts throughout Louisiana and before the Louisiana Departments of Environmental Quality, Wildlife & Fisheries, Natural Resources and Revenue & Taxation. He has served as appellate counsel in a wide variety of civil matters. He also is experienced in commercial real estate and partnership transactions, and health care law.
